The Schulich Space Rover Team originated in September 2019 with the goal of establishing a robotics team for participation in a diverse competition called the Canadian International Rover Challenge and utilize a team of young eningeers to design, build, and test a Mars Rover.

During my time on the team, we finished 5th place overall and 3rd place for Canadian teams at the Canadian International Rover Challenge in 2022.

I was an interface engineer on the software sub team where I made some notable conttributions:

● Created an intuitive base station interface, utilizing React.js, which enabled the pilot to monitor and control the rover's movements as well as observe real time video output from the onboard cameras.

● Implemented algorithms for autonomous navigation utilizing ROS and C++ for waypoint mapping, resulting in a 15% increase in efficiency of the rover's movements while no pilot is present.

● Integrated and synchronized sensor input by utilizing wrapper objects to package the raw data so it can be translated into actionable information such as the rover’s coordinates and relative position in space, resulting in a significant reduction in response time during testing

● Utilized computer vision techniques and MATLAB to develop and implement real-time object tracking functionality for the rover, enabling the system to identify and track objects in its field of view which improved obstacle detection by 40%.

Code ninjas is a place where youth of all ages can learn the fundamentals of computer science, engineering, and electronics. During my time here as an instructor I was responsible for:

● Taught a curriculum to take students from a beginner level (computer science fundamentals) to a comprehensive education in software development in languages such as JavaScript and C# over a series of classes, individual assessments, and collaborative challenges.

● Assisted students with the development of their own coding projects, resulting in the successful completion of over 30 student projects.

● Delivered instruction to groups of up to 20 students, utilizing interactive and hands-on teaching methods to increase engagement.

● Additionally, created and delivered workshops in advanced concepts such as game development, web development, and 3D modelling.

I created a VR basketball game using Unity, C#, and GeoMagic Touch haptic technology to study how force feedback affects shooting accuracy. Through user testing, I explored its implications for sports training, therapy, gaming, and medical simulation. This project demonstrates my skills in VR development, haptic technology, and data analysis, showcasing my contributions to enhancing user experiences in virtual environments.

Led team of 6 software engineering students to create "Know Pros," a Flask-based web app amalgamating Reddit-style threads with a LinkedIn-esque userbase, fostering certified answers among professionals. Managed dev with Python, HTML/CSS, MySQL, conducted backend testing with pytest & UI testing with Selenium IDE. Learned project management, team leadership, and advanced tech skills in web development and testing.

Led 3-student team in crafting rental property management system in Java and SQL, prioritizing user experience. Implemented class-based design for modularity and scalability. Executable JAR file ensured seamless operation. Strengthened skills in team leadership, Java programming, SQL, and software deployment.

During this 16 month internship at TC Energy I have been exposed to both the software and the integrity side of the pipeline industry. I reside on the Operational Support/Field Data & GIS Team where I lead a group of interns in validating defect reports for in service pipelines. I utilze my familiar expertise in software engineering along with my newly gained knowledge about pipeline integrity to make this process as efficient and safe as possible. Some of my key contributions include:

● Utilizing SQL and Python to build tools that predict likeliness of leaks based on certain pipeline wall thicknesses resulting in a 15% reduction in processing errors and a 20% enhancement in overall excavation effectiveness.

● Automated the data population procedure for validators by building scripts in VB, Power Automate, and Power Query, reducing manual effort and human error by 25% as well as decreasing the number of technicians needed in the field

● Applied comprehensive understanding of pipe integrity and remediation techniques to QA/QC integrity field reports, resulting in a significant improvement in the accuracy of identified pipeline anomalies.

In addition to my software engineering responsibilities, I have also been able to gain experience in the field. I have had the opportunity to be on site for pipeline inspections and have been able to see the pipeline integrity process from start to finish which has greatly assisted me in building software to streamline these processes.

Along the way I have been exposed to various aspects of the hands on work as well through training sessions such as this one held by Lincoln Electric. This was a full day welding training session where we went through the theory and then performed all the different types of welds on a pipe e.g(Butt, Fillet, etc.)

Not only did this give me a greater respect for the type of craftsmanship technicians perform, but also aided me in understanding how easy it is for certain defects to occur such as porosites forming (air bubbles in the weld).

I feel these experiences have made me a more well rounded engineer.
